Actually getting the address space can be achieved in one of two ways.   We'll choose the free one.

  • For thsoe who need to own their own addresss space, use it iin their corporations, serve it as an ISP, or leave it to their kids in the trust, one can purchase IPv6 address space from your country's Internet Registry.  In the US, one can get address space (for a fee), from ARIN, the American Registry of Internet Names and Numbers.  It's a great site, and it has many options.  Because it has a fee, it's also outside of the Good Doctor's budget and we're going to ignore it completely.
  • Our second option is an IPv6 tunnel.  The tunnel is a means of sending IPv6 packets over an existing IPv4 connection.  As far as the world is concerned, you have IPv6, but the "pipe" that gets you there is an IPv4 connection to a friendly ISP.

In this case, we're going to use the nice folks at Hurricane Electric.  They have very kindly offered a free IPv6 tunnel broker service.  Through it, they will assign you your very own /64 bit address space.  (While that not 16 Segan, but it is 65,536 full IPv4 Internets.... yes, you now do rule the entire Internet - at least yours.)
